GETTING TO KNOW.....
Our Neighbour, Honda
Over the next few months, we are planning to write a few stories about our next-door neighbour Honda starting with the life story of its founder, Soichiro Honda.
Described as the Henry Ford of Japan, Soichiro Honda’s story is truly amazing starting with the Honda Technical Research Institute which he started with a staff of twelve men working in a 170 sq. ft. shack, in October 1946, building motorized bicycles right up to the time when he created the Honda Motor Co., Ltd. in 1949. He enjoyed skiing, golf, racing cars, hang-gliding, and ballooning and was a highly accomplished artist.
Our stories will take us from his early life through to the development of the Honda motor company we know today. Our final chapter will study how Alliston became the home for Honda in Canada. I am sure it will prove to be an interesting story that will allow us to better know, understand and appreciate “our next-door neighbour”.
